500 Hour Service Interval Guide for a John Deere 650K Dozer – Part 3

A heavy-duty mechanic stands before a John Deere 650K dozer

In part 2 of this service interval, we changed the fuel filters on a John Deere 650k dozer.

Although not exclusively a part of the 500 hour service interval, part 3 covers how to change the engine air filters.

A video version of this post is available on the Tekamo HD YouTube channel. Check it out.

Change the Outer and Inner Air Filters

The engine air filters are inside a small access panel on the machine’s right side.

To remove the housing cap, you must first release it by lifting a tab on its left side while turning the cap counterclockwise.

Wipe the dust off the cap and check the dust valve for debris, leaves, etc.

Remove the outer filter (OEM part # AT390262) and wipe the canister without removing the old inner filter to avoid dust getting inside the system. Once you’re done cleaning the canister, pop out the inner filter (OEM part # AT390261).

To ensure the filters seal properly, give them a little wiggle while pushing until they are seated all the way in.

Finish by installing the cap back on. Pull the tab out and press the cap against the canister at a shallow angle (so the dust valve points a bit to your right) until it pops up. Then, turn the cap clockwise until it clicks—meaning the tab is down and the cap locked.

The following post will cover another “as required” task: changing the air conditioner and cabin recirculation air filters.
