John Deere 35G Mini Excavator, 500 Hour Service Interval Tasks – Part 6
Written by Luis Montes Updated On March 06, 2026

Previously, we explained how to service the final drive on a John Deere 35G.
In this article, we’ll cover how to change the engine air filters as part of the 500 hour periodic maintenance tasks.
On the Tekamo HD YouTube channel, you can watch Keith, a heavy-duty mechanic expert, do the task.

Remove Both Engine Air Filters

The air filters are in the engine bay, inside the canister shown above.
Undo the two clips holding the cap and remove it to uncover the filters. There’s one inside the other.

Just wiggle and pull to pop them out.
Double-Check the New Filter Before Installation
As we often recommend, spend a few seconds double-checking the new and old filters. Compare the lengths, diameters, and sealing surfaces. If the filters aren’t the same and don’t seal properly, it’ll eventually cause severe engine damage.

To install the inner filter, line it up with the housing, then gently push it in. Do the same with the outer filter. Give it a little twist while pushing to install it firmly.
Make sure to wipe dust and debris from the housing cap before reinstalling it.

Install the cap with the dust valve pointing down. It is the escape route for dirt and debris that shake out of the primary filter while the engine is running.
