Heads-up

If you’re doing the initial service on your 17G, don’t worry about there being no inner air filter — brand-new machines ship without one.

Remove the Engine Air Filters

A heavy-duty mechanic removes the cover from the canister containing the engine air filters.

Open up the hood (backside compartment).

Unlock the two latches on the canister and remove the cap and the outer filter.

Without removing the inner filter, wipe the housing using a clean cloth. Keeping the inner filter prevents dust and dirt from getting past the filter.

Once the housing is clean, remove the inner filter.

Install the New Filters

Check the inner and outer filters against the old counterparts to ensure they have the same length and diameter.

To install the filters, apply a bit of pressure on them until they pop in.

Wipe the dust from the housing cap with a clean cloth before returning it.

Also, make sure to clean the dust valve because if there are pine or bush needles and small branches, they will get stuck in the valve.

Reinstall the cap and its latches, making sure the top mark is up (12 o’clock position)
