1,000 Hour Service Interval Guide for a Komatsu PC200LC Excavator – Part 5

A heavy-duty technician stands before a Komatsu PC200LC. An overlay text reads: 1,000 hour service guide part 5

In the fourth post of this series, we serviced the final drive and changed the engine and cabin air filters.

In this final post, we’ll change the main pump oil to complete the 1,000-hour service interval on the Komatsu PC200LC excavator.

We also have a video version on the Tekamo HD YouTube channel. Check it out.

Change the Main Pump Oil

Before draining the final drive, line it up to the correct draining position, which is the top mark at the top and the groove representing the oil level as horizontally as possible.

The PC200LC-8 main hydraulic pump requires about 0.13 gallons (half a liter) of oil.

You’ll need the following socket and tools to service the main pump:

  • A 1/2” (13 mm) ratchet for the drain plug (the drive end fits inside the drain plug).
  • A 3/4″ (19 mm) for the level plug.
  • A 1/2″ breaker bar for the fill plug.

If you don’t want to remove more belly pans, you’ll need extension bars to reach the fill and level plugs. They are quite far back, near the engine.

A heavy-duty technician services the main pump on a Komatsu PC200LC. Arrows highlight the pump and show its complete housing.

Once the pump drains completely, put some pipe tape on the plug and reinstall it.

Pump oil until you see it leaking from the level plug port.

There’s no need to reinstall the plugs super tight. Just snug them.

Remove any dribblings with brake cleaner and wipe around the plugs with a clean rag.

Final Tasks

A heavy-duty technician reinstalls the belly pan on a Komatsu PC200LC excavator

Reinstall the belly pans, check the tension of the tracks, and grease the entire machine.

We have several videos on how to check the track tension on excavators. Since the process is pretty much the same for all excavators, here’s one where Keith adjusts the track tension on a Cat 314E.

To wrap up the 1,000 hour tasks, service the excavator’s grease points. The Komatsu PC200LC grease points are:
